What is CBT?
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a form of psychotherapy (a.k.a. talk therapy) and is a standard treatment for a variety of mental health issues such as anxiety, social skills deficits, stress, anger management, aggression, depression, grief, difficulties in handling problems, struggles in emotion regulation, and many more. CBT focuses on how a person’s thoughts, beliefs, and attitudes influence their emotions and behaviors. It is “problem-focused” and “action-oriented”. The sessions are geared towards learning strategies from evidence-based interventions to address identified goals and alleviate symptoms of distress.
What if my child has Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and the like?
Research shows that CBT is an effective therapy for individuals on the ASD and with comorbid disorders such as ADHD – regardless of their age. In therapy, we focus on concerns that are associated with living with ADHD or ASD, such as depression, bullying, stress, anger, aggression, anxiety, social skills deficits, and limited social support.
